What we’ve been up to – October 2017

Here’s a little recap of what we’ve been busy with in the month of October.

WordPress upgrade to version 4.8.3

As always we’re keeping our clients WordPress install update to the latest release. We did one security release update in October.

wordpress version 4.8.3

Under the hood

Al our hosted websites now running on HTTPS

This month we’ve switched all our hosted clients’ websites over to HTTPS.

HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) is a protocol for securely transferring data between a browser and your website. It lets your visitors’ browser know that you are who you say you are (authentication) and encodes the information your website sends to the visitor and vice versa (encryption).

Why the switch?

1. Having a secure website is good for business
2. HTTPS is a stated Google ranking factor
3. Prevent browsers warnings. Browsers are now marking website pages not on HTTPS as “not secure”
4. It’s our new default hosting setup

In short, HTTPS is the direction of travel, so that’s why all our clients’ websites running now on HTTPS.

WOFF2 support added to Typekit

As part of our ongoing work on improving the web font serving performance to our clients’ websites, our Typekit font script now supports the WOFF2 font format. The WOFF2 format succeeds the ubiquitous WOFF format and offers better compression than any other font format.

Another performance improvement for the web font loading for our clients’ websites. All Typekit font scripts will asynchronously load the web fonts. This will significantly improve the website performance.
